10 Minute Poetry: “Sink”

10 Minute Poetry: "Sink"

“Sink” by Michal Mitchell

I sit at my sink

And I wash my hair

I wash my hands

And I give a glare

I take some pills

From my vanity cabinet

Because looking too long

Can be quite the habit

I look at my sink

At all my washed hair

Sitting near the faucet

Piled down the well

Does over-washing hair come at a price?

All I really want is for it to look nice.

And what about the red

That come from my hands?

Maybe only then, others will understand

All I really want, is for the dirt to come off

All the mud and the rust

The disease and the wrought

And maybe only then

When I’m spick and I’m clean

My face won’t look tired

My eyes won’t look mean

My hair may remind others

Of the locks of the dead

But at least my hands and their colour

Will match my nails when they’re red.

“10 Minute Poetry” is my own weekly poet’s game; one in which I write an original piece of poetry, with nothing but a given title, in ten minutes.
